NOTE on CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0 and the GeoVeris business model. The "NC" clause restricts use to non-commercial purposes. As of v1.0, GeoVeris is distributed free of charge on the Google Play Store with no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no paid tier — a use Epoch11 considers compatible with the NonCommercial designation. Before introducing any paid tier, advertising, or commercial sponsorship, Epoch11 will (a) replace GEM faults with a permissively licensed alternative or (b) negotiate a commercial license directly with the GEM Foundation. This obligation is tracked internally and is the responsibility of Epoch11.

3. Well datasets — provenance and licensing posture

GeoVeris aggregates well-location data from 78 public regulatory sources in dozens of jurisdictions. These are public records or open data published by the regulator named in each row. We treat each record as a factual public filing, redistributable with attribution, consistent with the practice of academic compilers (e.g. Macrostrat, NETL) and well-data services in the U.S. and abroad.

Per-record attribution. Every well feature in GeoVeris carries the following provenance fields (also visible in the well detail panel):

If a regulator objects. If any agency listed below contacts Epoch11 to object to redistribution of their data through GeoVeris, we will remove the affected source from the next bundle and replace it with a link-out to the agency's portal. Contact: legal@epoch11.app.

Most listed sources publish their data either explicitly under an open license (typically the Open Government Licence — Canada, the UK Open Government Licence v3.0, INSPIRE-aligned terms in the EU, or a CC-BY family license) or implicitly as public records of the regulating authority. We have made reasonable, good-faith efforts to verify each source's terms. Specific notes:

Their appearance in GeoVeris is solely for attribution and identification of the underlying public datasets and does not imply endorsement.
